Professional Consultation To Parents

 
Dr. Greenberg is available to provide consultation to parents navigating the difficult process of parental separation and developing appropriate plans for their children. Dr. Greenberg can be engaged in a neutral capacity to provide information to both parents and assist in settlement discussions, or privately by one parent and his/her counsel. As a consultant, Dr. Greenberg cannot make recommendations as to the best parenting plan for a child and family, but can provide psychological information that may assist parents in making those decisions for themselves. The consultation process is different from therapy in that a consultant may also work with the attorneys involved in a case.

When engaged as a neutral consultant, Dr. Greenberg can:

  • Describe children's common responses to parental separation
  • Provide developmental information useful in structuring parenting plans appropriate to children at different ages
  • Identify common problems that arise when helping children to adjust to the new family structure, including coordination of activities and essential information
  • Provide strategies and resources to assist parents in coparenting and supporting their children, and resolving problems that may arise
  • Identify elements that may be useful to include in a parenting plan
  • Jointly assist parents and their counsel in drafting a stipulation and parenting plans
  • Meeting jointly with parents, or parents and counsel, to identify possible resolutions when problems arise

When engaged privately by a parent and counsel, Dr. Greenberg can:

  • Provide developmental and parenting plan information in each of the areas listed above
  • Assist parents in identifying areas for improvement in parenting and coping skills
  • Assist with strategic planning
  • Work with a parent and his/her counsel to successfully navigate the process and achieve a successful outcome
  • Provide private parent education and coaching
  • Assist with effective coparenting communications
  • Provide assistance to counsel in each of the areas outlined in the consultation to attorneys section
Dr. Greenberg may also be able to meet jointly with parents and their counsel to assist in problem solving, settlement discussions, parenting coaching, or strategic planning.
